In 1998, Jeff Alt hiked the 2,167 mile Appalachian Trail as a fundraiser for the Sunshine Foundation. Jeff has a brother, Aaron, with developmental disabilities who is served at Sunshine's Children's Home. He dedicated his hike to his brother and raised $16,000 for adaptive equipment and communication devices. Jeff's subsequent book, "A Walk for Sunshine" details his experience and sales of the book continue to raise funds for Sunshine residents. You can learn more about Jeff at his website.

Jeff's journey inspired his friends, family members and other volunteers to hold an annual Walk to benefit the residents of Sunshine. The Walk with Sunshine is held annually on the second Saturday in September at Monclova Elementary School, just a mile south of Sunshine Children's Home.

Each year the Alt family, Sunshine residents, staff, volunteers and friends gather to walk three miles along the paved Wabash trail. Monies raised benefit the animal activities program at Sunshine.

To date, the annual Walk with Sunshine has raised more than $100,000 to benefit the residents of Sunshine.
