Sunshine is pleased to announce that Dick Anderson, chairman of the board of Anderson’s Inc., has agreed to be honorary chair of the Building the Dream campaign committee. Dick and his family have been longtime Sunshine supporters, dating back to the 1950s.
“I am honored to be a part of Sunshine’s capital campaign to raise funds for a much needed facility in which to provide state of the art vocational services for individuals with developmental disabilities,” Dick said. “Reaching our campaign goal of $3M will help many individuals lead more productive lives.”
Noted Betty Holland, Sunshine executive director, “Dick’s insight and reputation will be an invaluable addition to the great support we enjoyed during phase I of the campaign.”
Phase I of the Sunshine Foundation Hope Campaign has successfully raised more than $1.6M toward the agency’s goal of raising the entire $3M cost of the new day habilitation center. Phase I allowed construction to proceed on a very tight time frame, resulting in a beautiful new facility designed with client needs in mind.
But more work needs to be done.
Phase 2, Building the Dream, focuses on utilizing that space to its maximum potential. Within the next two years, Sunshine plans to create client-specific programming in a variety of interest areas. People who love music will participate in music therapy; those with a creative bent will make ceramics or other art pieces; and some folks will learn skills that lead to paid work or new business ventures. We have a creative staff and eager clients who are working together to build something new and exciting in the field of day habilitation services.
How can I be involved?
Sunshine Foundation, Inc. is selling naming rights to all the activity rooms and therapy spaces in the Day Habilitation Center. Do you have a passion for Picasso? A zeal for zinnias? Does recycling rev you up? Your interests and passions are shared by our clients, who dream of spending their days in meaningful pursuits.
Donors or groups of donors can underwrite entire rooms or contribute to certain spaces like our ecological room, music room or greenhouse. Every donation helps ensure that dollars are available to develop top-notch programming in those spaces. Without your support, program dollars will be diverted to servicing the building’s debt rather than invested in improving clients’ lives.
There are many ways to make a gift to the Building the Dream Campaign. Contributions can be made as one-time gifts or pledges over a three to five year period. Your pledge can be made in cash, stock or bonds.
